A five-year labor deal between United Parcel Service (UPS) and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters that was approved by 86 percent of UPS workers will result in average pay of $49 an hour for full-time employees, the Teamsters said Aug. 22.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 25, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- The Teamsters' new National Master Agreement with UPS has officially gone into effect, protecting more than 340,000 full- and part-time workers, after an outstanding supplemental contract was resolved and ratified in Florida.

Pay for existing and starting part-time workers will be raised to at least $21 an hour immediately, advancing to $23 per hour. Current part-timers also won longevity wage increases of up to $1.50 an hour. Wage increases for full-time drivers would bring their average top rate to $49 an hour, the union said.

Teamsters Local 340 leader Brett Miller said UPS workers have spent the past two years of the COVID-19 pandemic understaffed and overworked. Miller said the company needs to hire at least 100 employees to allow current workers more time off and to avoid consistent overtime.

Article 22 – Full-Time Combination and Part-Time Employees

This commitment shall include the obligation to create at least 7,500 new full-time jobs from existing part-time jobs during the last three years of this agreement. 1,000 in the third year of the contract; 3,000 in the fourth year; and 3,500 in the fifth year.
